A Grand Round Presentation
I recently had the opportunity to give a Grand Round presentation at my local hospital, and of course chose the topic that has become near and dear to my heart.
As health professionals, we are already seeing patients suffering from the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. Although we are likely to hit 1.5 degrees of global average temperature rise within the next 15 years, for every 0.1 degree further increase we prevent, we save millions of lives and countless species.
This is an all hands on deck kind of scenario!
We health professionals can doctor the planet with climate leadership. We are perfectly positioned to be leaders in climate action. All those things that we can do to help the planet – (walking or biking to work, plant-based diet, judicious use of resources ) – make our patients healthier too. Also, people trust us – look at who comes out on top of any survey asking who are the most trusted professionals – it’s us in healthcare. If we can use this influence as trusted professionals to change the trajectory of planetary degradation, we must try.
