Now is the time and we are the people.
Healthcare workers are on the front line as the effects of climate change are occurring.
The climate crisis is unfolding exponentially, not linearly, and every generation of healthcare workers starting with us is going to have to take sustainability questions into account. We must make dramatic changes to all our lives, especially with CO2 emissions this decade.
The very sector that has health as its mission is itself a major polluter. If the healthcare sector were a country, it would be the 5th largest polluter in the world.
Doing something is more important than being overwhelmed. We can all have an important impact especially when we model sustainable practices and tell others why we are doing what we’re doing.
As a sector, perhaps the biggest contribution we can make to humanity is to model the transition away from fossil fuels and towards a future in which our offspring can thrive.
As we move away from fossil fuels, we will improve the health of billions of people on the planet.
This is in our Wheelhouse, and we have Responsibility.
